Pork President Says Administration Needs to Keep Plants Operating

One of the goals of the Trump administration is keeping the nation’s food system functioning through the pandemic. Minnesota Pork Producers Association President Dave Mensink says there’s a lot of concern in the pork industry about several processing plants cutting back production or shutting down briefly because of Covid 19 cases. He’s pleased the administration is putting together a plan to provide coronavirus tests for plant workers.

He’s hoping whatever plan the administration comes up with lessens the time any processing facilities have to be shut down due to Covid 19.

Mensink says correcting the disruption in the food supply chain will take time.

The Covid 19 task force headed by Vice President Mike Pence has been talking with meatpackers and food producers as well as the USDA as they work on a plan for coronavirus testing.
