United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will lead a U.S. delegation to Shanghai, China next week. They’ll be having trade talks with China’s Vice Premier and Commerce Minister. South Dakota Pork Producers Council President Ferlyn Hofer says he thinks that’s positive and he’s hoping they reach an agreement to end the trade war.
He sees more positive movement in resolving the U.S.-China trade dispute. Hofer adds that the U.S. is sending pork to China but it’s not at the level they’d like.
Hofer says the tariff battle needs to end soon or else there will be several pork producers exiting the business.
The U.S. said it will offer exemptions from import tariffs for 110 Chinese products and in exchange, Chinese companies say they’ll soon purchase U.S. agricultural products without placing tariffs on them.
