Last week the U.S. and European Union concluded their sixth round of the Trans Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership talks. The TTIP is stuck with no real movement on sanitary and phyto sanitary measures as the E.U. won’t agree to following those. National Pork Producers Council President Dr. Howard Hill says that’s a critical part of the negotiation that must be resolved because it involves a lot of areas and not just pork.
Hill says the administration isn’t focusing very heavily on TTIP as they’re more concerned with TPP and that’s bogged down by the President not having trade promotion authority in place.
Republican House members of the Ways and Means Committee are saying TPP won’t be solved until Trade Promotion Authority is passed. The President and members of his party continue to disagree on whether that should be passed.
