U.S. pork officials want trade negotiators to solidify America’s trading relationship with Japan. U.S. Trade Representatives are working to supply chilled and ground seasoned pork to Japanese customers. Nebraska Pork Producers Association’s Executive Director Al Juhnke says that needs to be done to cement out trade with the U.S. number one value customer for U.S. pork.
He says Nebraska’s producers and processors are in line to supply the Japanese market with pork due to lower freight rates to the West Coast.
Juhnke says one of the best ways to improve trade with Japan is to continue building those personal relationships.
Juhnke says not only is there opportunity to grow the U.S. pork market in Japan but also to open new Pacific Rim markets in both the Philippines and Vietnam.
