This week Acting Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler signed a proposed rule to exempt farms from emissions reporting under the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know or EPCRA rules. South Dakota Pork Producers Council Executive Director Glenn Muller is pleased the agency is moving ahead with that.

He says once the proposal is finalized it’ll allow the government to move forward on proper regulating of emissions from sources that are causing the problem.

Muller says once the rule is finalized it’ll prevent farmers from facing regulatory uncertainty as well as bringing costs down.

Once finalized this proposed rule will maintain consistency between the emergency release notification requirements of EPRCRA and CERCLA, the comprehensive environmental response and liability act.
