Pork Industry Wants Section 232 Tariffs Lifted

One member of the Trump administration favors removing the Section 232 tariffs on Canadian and Mexican steel and aluminum which has led to retaliatory tariffs. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says those tariffs have a dampening impact on the benefits of the new USMCA. Nebraska Pork Producers Association President Darin Uhlir agrees and is hopeful those tariffs get lifted.

He says if the Ag Secretary, the U.S. Trade Representative and other administration officials can come together, the chances of solving the negative effects of the trade war increase.

Uhlir says export markets are extremely important for the U.S. pork industry and getting all disruptions solved will help the bottom line for most producers.

Recently the White House and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer discussed the tariffs but no conclusion was reached.
