The 12 country negotiators including the United States have wrapped up an agreement on the Trans Pacific Partnership. USDA analysis projects U.S. ag exports to the TPP countries would increase by about $2.8 billion over the next decade. National Pork Producers Vice President and Counsel for Global Government Affairs Nick Giordano says this is a good deal for U.S. pork producers.

He believes a good deal takes time and the TPP is likely the most important trade agreement the U.S. has ever entered into.

Giordano says this agreement will be similar to past U.S. FTA’s as far as pork is concerned with significant tariff reductions and non-tariff barrier eliminations.

Last year the U.S. pork industry shipped about $ 4.5 billion of products to the 11 TPP countries.
