Swine fever has been ramping up in Far East countries. China has seen African Swine Fever pop up and there is no vaccine for the disease. It has also spread rapidly and now Classical Swine Fever also known as Hog Cholera has shown up in Japan. South Dakota Pork Producers Council Executive Director Glenn Muller says with all those disease concerns, pork producers need to heighten their biosecurity.
He says producers also need to closely check their feed sources.
Muller says pork producers need to consult with their local veterinarian to monitor for any possible disease problems in their herds.
While Classical Swine Fever has been reported in Japan, their Veterinary Services ruled out the occurrence of African Swine Fever.
