Four pork organizations are embarking on a year long project to close gaps in biosecurity at U.S. pork operations. Swine Health Information Center Executive Director Dr. Paul Sundberg says the goal is improve the biosecurity in an effort to prevent any foreign animal diseases from entering the United States.
He says while one of the major foreign animal diseases confronting the pork industry globally is African Swine Fever., it hasn’t yet appeared in the U.S. Sundberg says their model for their biosecurity research will be ASF.
Sundberg says the pork producers themselves are the key to preventing foreign animal diseases with biosecurity on their operations.
The four pork groups working on this joint project include the Swine Health Information Center, The National Pork Producers Council, The National Pork Board and the American Association of Swine Veterinarians.
