Pork Facility Looks at Other Iowa Locations

A $240 million pork processing facility that failed to get approval in Mason City, Iowa is still looking at the Hawkeye state for their project. Ron Prestage of Prestage farms says they’ve received inquiries from close to 20 other Iowa communities interested in the project and they’re giving each of them fair consideration.

He says while there are several Iowa communities that are a good fit for their project, they want to avoid the activist opposition they faced in Mason City.

Prestage says for the most part, Iowa officials have welcomed their company which makes the state an attractive location for the processing facility.

The North Carolina-based Prestage farms pork processing facility would employ up to 2,000 workers and process 10,000 pigs per day.
