Nebraska and U.S. pork officials are hailing the Japanese government’s approval this week of the bilateral trade deal between them and the United States. Nebraska Pork Producers Association Executive Director Al Juhnke says Japan imports a lot of fresh rather than frozen pork and is an important market for America’s pork producers.
He says getting the Japanese deal finalized is hopefully the step off point to getting other Pacific Rim bilateral agreements approved.
Juhnke says having the Japan bilateral deal completed equals the market access for the U.S. with other countries.
The U.S. Japanese trade pact goes into effect January 1 of 2020.
