The need to be able to battle any new diseases that may impact the swine industry prompted the National Pork Board to provide $ 15 million over five years for a Swine Health Information Center. Pork Board member and Mitchell South Dakota producer Brad Greenway says they wanted to be proactive in order to deal with the next disease challenge following PED virus.
Greenway says the need for funding of such a facility also came about because of the large number of potential disease challenges on the horizon.
The new center will be governed by a board consisting of representatives from the National Pork Board, National Pork Producers Council, the American Association of Swine Veterinarians and at large pork producers.
