The Nebraska Vote No 369 Coalition released results of a poll of 2300 voters in the 15 county region served by Southeast Community College. It showed most voters oppose the College’s $369 million bond issue because of its impact on property taxes. Ashley Mick is Nebraska Farm Bureau Political Action Committee and State Government Relations Director. She says this comes as no surprise.
She says their coalition doesn’t oppose funding education, but believes the bond measure is misguided. Mick says her group is willing to work with Community College officials to find a better solution.
Mick says the burden on Nebraskans who pay property taxes is already high and the possible impact on farmers and ranchers already facing a depressed ag economy would be even greater.
Mick says besides Nebraska Farm Bureau, Cattlemen and Soybean Association members there are several business groups represented in their coalition opposing the bond measure.
