Regardless of political party, a poll of over 800 Iowa voters shows 71 percent of them support the Renewable Fuel Standard. That’s the 2007 law requiring alternative fuels be blended into gasoline. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says the level of backing for the RFS is up from previous surveys.

He says most consumers see the value of the RFS but what’s disturbing is how the RFS volume level implementations is creating economic problems for the industry.

Shaw says there’s an opportunity for the EPA to get the RFS volume levels back up when they roll out their next annual levels this April, May or June and finalize those this fall.

The recent RFS Iowa poll was conducted from February 21 to February 24 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
