The Iowa Department of Agriculture is partnering with Polk County, Des Moines Water Works, and Heartland Coop to add 40,000 acres of cover crops over the next 4 years to the area. Iowa secretary of agriculture Mike Naig says this program offers numerous benefits to producers.

He says this program could help build off an already strong foundation of cover crops in the state.

Secretary Naig also notes the program may be piloted to a larger area if successful.
