Police Pursuit Claims Bill Dies in the Nebraska Legislature

An effort to limit who can claim they were an innocent third party in a police pursuit has been talked to death in the Nebraska legislature.
The sponsor failed by two votes to end a filibuster and force a vote.
Senator Mike Groene told colleagues his city of North Platte had to pay 55-Thousand dollars to a person injured after a pursuit was called off, even though the person was drunk at the time and in jail when the city delivered the check. . .https://soundcloud.com/wnax-radio/groene-226a

Senator Ernie Chambers of Omaha opposes changing the law he successfully ushered through the legislature more than 30 years ago…and tells colleagues the debate isn’t about whether you like the police or not…

The sponsor says he will evaluate where the issue stands and might bring the issue back next year.
