Late in 2015, the sage grouse was delisted as an endangered species. Now the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service will be releasing administrative rules regarding the sage grouse. Public Lands Council Executive Director Ethan Lane says they’re monitoring those rules, which he expects to come out soon.
Lane says his group is concerned that the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service will put even more restrictions on landowners regarding the sage grouse than what was originally included in the Endangered Species listing.
He says Public Lands Council will weigh in with Congress on the effects of these rules and how they affect landowners.
The Sage Grouse delisting has been challenged in court and now the Court is requiring both BLM and the Forest Service to release those administrative rules. The Forest Service version is due January 29 while BLM’s is due February 15.
