The 2018 Farm Bill contained some positives and negatives for ranchers. That’s according to Public Lands Council Executive Director Ethan Lane. He says their biggest disappointment however were forestry protections for ranchers from wildfires that didn’t make it into the final legislation.

He says ranchers this year who suffered large losses from wildfires are now left unprotected going forward because of the elimination of the forestry provision.

Lane says funding for EQIP and the FMD Vaccine bank were included in the farm bill which was positive.

Lane says the forestry provisions that were stripped contained 11 important components needed by ranchers.
