Monday’s crop progress report showed planting well ahead of average in Iowa. Corn planting was pegged at 83-percent verses the 65-percent average and soybean seeding is at 30-percent which is 8-percent ahead of normal. However, Iowa State University Field Agronomist Joel DeJong says in the area he covers in northwest Iowa those numbers are even higher.
He says the storms over the weekend were isolated and no crop damage was reported and the rains were a bit modest as well.
DeJong says crop emergence has been exceptional as well and he’s not seeing any issues so far this season.
