Some planting progress was made this last week despite continued cool and wet field conditions. According to the U-S Department of Agriculture, Iowa has 29 percent of the state’s corn planted, and 16 percent of the state’s soybeans have been planted. Nebraska has similar numbers with 30 percent of the state’s corn crop planted, and 16 percent of the soybeans are now in the ground. Minnesota farmers have five percent corn and one percent soybeans planted. South Dakota is behind with only one percent of the corn planted and no soybeans. Brent Swart is a director with the Iowa Soybean Association and farms in Clay County, Iowa. He says he just started planting.
Swart says he is planting both corn and soybeans at the same time. He says weather conditions have improved and he expects to “hit it hard this week.”
