It is still about two months away but one of the biggest events in rural Nebraska is set for the first weekend of June. Karla Deepe is the co-chairperson for this year’s Cattlemen’s Ball, a fundraiser for cancer research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Each year a host farm is selected and this year it will be held at the Randy and Becky Hergott farm north of Hebron.
Deepe says this event is two days packed full of fun and entertainment.
Deepe says along with showcasing Nebraska’s beef industry this is foremost a fundraiser for UNMC. She says 90% of the proceeds goes to cancer research and 10% stays in the local community that supports the event. Headliners for this year include country starts Tracy Lawrence and Trace Adkins. Volunteers are needed. For information on how to sign up or to buy tickets visit cattlemensball.com.
