The Pipestone Discovery Barn is in its third year at the Sioux Empire Fair, which is underway this week in Sioux Falls. Barn Organizer Sylvia Wolters says thousands of consumers will go through the educational facility over the course of the fair to see the live animals and interactive exhibits.
Wolters says they have sows and dairy cows that are giving birth at the Discovery Barn during the week, milking demos, plus kids can feed bottle calves and pet the baby pigs and chicks. She says they are trying to give fairgoers the farm experience and get them in touch with their food supply.
She says attendees have common questions like what the pigs and dairy animals eat and they’re just curious about what happens on a farm. And from that perspective she thinks they’re making a difference.
The Pipestone Discovery Barn will also feature events like the Hungry for Truth Day on Thursday and the Thank a Farmer magic show.
