The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission started the hearing process yesterday (Tuesday) for the Dakota Access Pipeline.

PUC Chairman Chris Nelson says this proceeding will be different than the one they completed last month for the recertification of the Keystone XL route…

Nelson says they have some basic criteria to follow in judging the application…

The company wants to move oil from North Dakota through eastern South Dakota and Iowa to refineries in Illinois.

Nelson says there isn’t any time set aside for public comments in this part of the hearing…

Nelson says they need to make a decision on the route by mid-December.
