The four finalists for the Pig Farmer of the Year Award presented by the National Pork Board spent part of last week interviewing in Chicago for the award. Finalist and Centerville, South Dakota pork producer Craig Andersen says it’s an interesting experience that involves an intense line of questioning.
He says the Pork Board’s We Care principles are important ones for producers to follow to ensure a safe and healthy product for consumers and one that’s produced using proper welfare practices.
Andersen says whoever wins the honor will be a great representative for the industry and hopefully bring producers closer to consumers.
From now until September 10, the public can vote once a day per person for the Pig Farmer of the Year at americaspigfarmer.com. The winner will be announced October 11. The other three finalists are Brad Greenway of Mitchell, South Dakota, Jarrod Bakker of Dike, Iowa and Maria Mauer of Greensburg, Indiana.
