Years ago most people had phone numbers of family and friends memorized. That isn’t the case anymore. A recent study shows that about 45% of people surveyed did not know those numbers because that information was stored in their smart phone.
This is known as digital amnesia, or relying on technology instead of memory. University of Nebraska Medical Center pediatrician Dr. Awra Nasir says the brain is very adaptive and we only remember what we need to remember.
That same survey showed only 70% of participants knew the phone number of their spouse by memory.
