Phasing out Cervid Farms Could Help Eliminate CWD

Phasing out Cervid Farms Could Help Eliminate CWD

A moratorium on new deer farms in Minnesota plus voluntary buy-out to shut down existing operations — key parts of a proposal at the legislature to control the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease.  Representative Jamie Becker-Finn from Roseville says phasing out cervid farms may be one way to eliminate C-W-D

Tim Spreck with the Minnesota Deer Farmers Association says it’s “preposterous” to target deer farms

There’s also a proposal to require double-fences around cervid farms.  Spreck says no one opposes it, but without a funding source the cost would bankrupt most family deer farms.
