A recent PEW study shows that more than half of United States adults have positive view of trade agreements between the U.S. and other countries. U.S. Grains Council Chairman Alan Tiemann says that’s good news for agriculture which relies on global sales to help improve profitability.
Since 1945, the U.S. has negotiated agreements with 20 countries, which while important, is small compared to the 260 trade deals in place around the world. Tiemann says it’s important for the U.S. to be at the table and part of these trade pacts, otherwise agriculture gets shut out of any possible market share.
Tiemann says each agreement is critical because success with one builds on the next one.
The recent PEW study found that 51-percent of adults included in the poll thought trade agreements were positive for the United States.
