Petitions Push Non-Partisan Ballot in SD

A proposed constitutional amendment in South Dakota would end partisan elections for all races on the ballot except for President.
Former US Senate candidate Rick Weiland of Sioux Falls says they believe the current partisan system has broken down…………

Weiland’s group, “Take It Back dot org” is circulating petitions, seeking enough signatures to get their amendment on the ballot……………

The amendment would create a “top two” type of election, with the top two candidates, without party identification, in a primary election advancing to the general election ballot in November.

Weiland says they are getting a good response………

Weiland’s group would need about twenty eight thousand signatures to get on the ballot. The deadline is November 9th.
