Petitions For Nebraska Minimum Wage Vote Turned In

Nebraskans may well vote on whether to increase the state minimum wage.

Organizers working to get the issue before voters say they turned in nearly 135-Thousand signatures to the Secretary of State’s office.

If enough are verified, the issue goes to a vote in November.

Former Congressman John Cavanaugh says minimum-wage workers deserve a raise. . .

State Senator Jeremy Nordquist of Omaha, another sponsor of the drive, says it’s past time to raise the minimum wage. . .

The verification process now begins. Roughly 83-Thousand signatures from 38 of the state’s 93 counties must be from registered voters to make the November ballot.

The measure seeks to raise the state minimum wage from the current 7-25 an hour to 8-dollars next year…then, up to 9-dollars in 2016.
