Organizers in Nebraska are making progress in their effort to gather 85,000 signatures to place a property tax relief measure on this year’s November ballot. Trent Fellers is a petition sponsor for the group “Yes to Property Tax Relief”. He’s not releasing the specific number of signatures collected so far but says it’s going quite well.
He says their petition seeks a ballot measure calling for a refundable property tax credit.
Fellers says they have support from a number of diverse groups representing agriculture, education, small businesses and individual citizens.
Fellers says they need the 85,000 signatures by July 5 to get on this November’s election ballot. He says the petition drive has been going for some time. However, with state senators unable to agree on property tax relief legislation and the session on the brink of adjournment they’ll soon ramp up their effort.
