The group True Nebraskans which has mounted a petition drive to place a constitutional amendment on the November 2020 ballot say they’ve picked up steam in gathering signatures needed for their property tax relief measure. True Nebraskans Chairman Paul Von Behren says they had great success gathering signatures prior to the spread of the coronavirus. He says they’re on track to get the 121,000 signatures they need by July 6 to get on the ballot.

He says part of the reason for their success has been the failure of the State Legislature to pass any meaningful relief either this session or in the past two sessions. Von Behren says the need for property tax reduction keeps growing.

Von Behren says their petition calls for a rebate of 35 percent of each Nebraskans property taxes.

Von Behren says their group’s policy is not to release the actual numbers of signatures they’ve obtained so far. But he thinks they’re making good progress in getting the signatures they need.
