Minnesota lawmakers return to St. Paul March 8 and one bill that’s been pre-filed would allow local governments to prohibit or regulate pesticide use. State Farmers Union’s Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says his group is monitoring that legislation but doesn’t expect it to get very far.
He says that measure, House File 2439 is an attempt to regulate pesticide drift.
Petersen says pesticide drift issues happen every year. However, the State Department of Agriculture already does a good job addressing those problems so additional legislation is really not necessary.
Petersen says they are also monitoring several other ag related bills that have been pre-filed.
