Some farm groups are happy legislation introduced into the Senate that would end the requirement of a National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Permit for certain pesticide applications. The Sensible Environmental Protection Act would eliminate the permit, which has been effective since it’s initiation under the Clean Water Act in 2011. National Council of Farmers Cooperative CEO, Chuck Connor says this measure eliminates duplicative regulations.
Connor says the legislation introduced this week would still retain the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act regulation, but would get rid of extra red tape.
Connor thinks this measure has a good chance of being approved in both chambers and being signed into law.
The House Agriculture Committee has already approved companion legislation.
