Pesticide drift is a major concern for both organic and conventional farmers in Iowa and several have experienced severe damage to their crops because of it. That concern has led to Senate Bill 3125 which is backed by the Iowa Farmers Union. President Jana Linderman testified in favor of the measure in front of a State Senate Subcommittee this week. She says it allows for on line reporting of drift incidents.
She says another important component of SB 3125 calls for sending of drift samples to the state hygenic lab to speed up testing.
Linderman says the legislation is needed to protect both conventional and organic growers from pesticide drift.
Linderman says the subcommittee sent it on to the full committee where she expects it to be approved.
