Past Canadian Cattle President Expects Canada To Approve USMCA

The USMCA trade agreement was presented to Canada’s House of Commons this week and the past President of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association hopes they approve it quickly. Ontario cattle producer Dan Darling says he thinks the agreement will move rapidly through that body.

He says having a free trade deal is what’s best for all three countries, Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. Darling says he liked the original NAFTA and thinks because of how old that deal was, it needed some updating, although keeping it in place is important.

Darling hopes that if Canada can move ahead and approve USMCA that it will prompt the U.S. to follow suit. He says having all the tariffs removed needed to happen so trade can resume.

Darling is hopeful the USMCA gets approved ahead of their national elections coming in five months.
