Over the weekend the Senate approved the Water Resources Development Act Conference report already passed by the House. Waterways Council Senior Vice President Deb Calhoun says it’s now known as the Waterways Infrastructure Improvement Act for the Nation bill and is expected to be signed by the President. She says their group is pleased Congress is back on track approving inland waterways projects.
She says the approval of the conference measure not only authorized inland waterways projects it also prevented passage of a public private partnership or P3 provision.
Calhoun says their next step is to work with the new Congress to get a waterways funding or stimulus measure passed.
Calhoun says the WINN conference measure is the most cost effective way for agricultural commodities to be shipped and is a big victory for agriculture and the whole economy.
