Despite the fallout from this year’s COVID 19 pandemic and less people likely traveling for the thanksgiving holiday, it’s not expected to curtail turkey consumption. Iowa Turkey Federation Executive Director Gretta Irwin says consumers will be enjoying turkey in a different way, not just eating the big bird at a large family gathering.

She says the pandemic has curtailed some turkey production but what was impacted is not the turkey that’s normally eaten during thanksgiving.

Irwin says COVID 19 had a larger effect this summer when the restaurant industry stopped serving turkey with less people eating away from home.

Irwin says she expects consumers to purchase turkey drumsticks for the holidays and possibly even cook turkey legs in a crockpot. She says those wanting more information about turkeys can go to their website at Iowaturkey.org.
