The Pandemic Cover Crop program is back for 2021 with the USDA releasing a new round of payments for producers who plant cover crops. Eligible growers will be able to receive crop insurance premium subsidies worth $5 an acre. Kate Hansen a policy associate for the Center for Rural Affairs says that if you are already utilizing cover crops on your acres that you likely qualify for this program.

Hansen says that growers should be mindful that there are some changes in the timing this year.

She noted that individual states have been offering this program before the USDA did in 2021 and have had positive results thus far.

She encourages those that have questions to reach out to their crop insurance agents.
