South Dakota voters may get a chance next year to ban out of state contributions to ballot issue committees.
House Speaker Mark Mickelson of Sioux Falls sponsored the petition drive to get that question on the ballot. He says there are already campaign finance limits…..
Mickelson says out of state groups distort the purpose of the state initiative process…..
Mickelson says he is sure there will be attempts to end run the measure if it passes…
The measure would ban contributions from nonresidents, and require ballot backing groups to be registered for four years before an election. The petitions are still being validated by the Secretary of States Office.
