The Organization for Competitive Markets has passed a resolution opposing Monsanto’s possible purchase of Syngenta. The buyout would allow the world’s largest seed company to acquire the world’s largest agricultural chemical company. OCM President, Mike Callicrate says if this is allowed to go through, it will hurt both consumers and producers.
Callicrate says the possible deal between Monsanto and Syngenta is symptomatic of what’s happening with over concentration in all areas of business in the country.
He says the large corporations need to be broken up and anti trust laws need to be better enforced.
Callicrate says the U.S. has already lost 90 percent of its pork producers, over half of its cattle ranchers and 85 percent of its dairymen all due to concentration.
