The Mission Hill Township held a special election late last month on a petition requesting the township revert to disorganized status. The petition was defeated by five votes, but during the election, sixteen people were not allowed to vote. The Yankton County Auditors office investigated and found four voters were not property registered and the remaining twelve would have been eligible but were mistakenly omitted from the voter list.

County Commissioner Cheri Loest says she reached out for more information and options…

Loest says the Secretary of States Office is working on updated guidelines…

Loest says it is unfortunate for the residents of the township..

Yankton County States Attorney Rob Klimisch issued an opinion that the only option for those omitted voters is to challenge the election in court.
