Opposition is growing to a proposed six million head chicken facility in Turner County. Parker resident John Chicoine says the Sonstegard Farms operation site is too close to a municipality and will result in environmental and health problems, a reduction of real estate values and problems for the school system.
He says while they’ve been assured the facility will use only the most technological production methods, there have been issues at Sonstegard facilities in other states.
Chicoine says contributing to the problem is the changes that were made in the county zoning rules in September of 2014.
Chicoine says they also oppose the facility because it is not a family farm, it’s a corporation. A community meeting on the project is scheduled for February 16 at 7pm at the Parker Community Center.
