The original plan was to come up with five ideas for the Onward Yankton competition, but there are now six to choose from.
Onward Yankton came together earlier this year looking for “the next big idea.”
The six ideas include redeveloping the downtown as a cultural and education area, creating a four season entertainment venue in the Chalkstone Hill area on the way to Lewis & Clark Lake, building a tower along the Missouri River in downtown that would have residents and businesses, developing a child centered community and museum, create a village centered theme in the downtown and riverside area, and use Mount Marty College as the centerpiece of a business incubator and development center.
Larry Ness, CEO of First Dakota National Bank, and part of the Onward Yankton committee says a lot of the ideas had to do with quality of life.
Ness says they will follow up with the final six.
There is ten thousand dollars that will go with the final winner. Ness says they wanted people to know they were serious.
The final idea winner should be announced early next month.
