One Person Injured in a Wednesday Night Armed Robbery

Yankton Police Chief Brian Paulsen says 2 black males entered a residence in the 800 Block of Broadway about 11:08 Wednesday. Both males were armed with semi-automatic style handguns (one gun silver, the other black) and demanded money. The victim was physically assaulted and the suspects left the residence with the money. A black female was identified as driving the vehicle that left the crime scene.
They were driving a 2007 KIA, four door, maroon in color, SD LICENSE 7CZ548
Paulsen says the vehicle that the suspects were driving was later recovered at a Casey’s General Store, located at 8th and Burleigh, Yankton, SD. A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and no weapons or money were found.
Paulsen identified the first suspect as:
Donald R. Smith (AM/M) DOB 8-20-87
1311 National St. Yankton, SD
Known gang member of “Duce 9”
5-8” 175lbs-Numerous Tattoos
Hair- cornrowed
Armed and Dangerous
On Parole with Keith Thompkins out of Yankton
Has active Bench warrant for Possession of Marijuana
Smith is also wanted on a Parole Detainer from the State of South Dakota

Approximately 24 to 25 yoa
Wearing Tan baggy shorts
Armed and Dangerous

The Yankton Police Department along with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations are working together to identify the 2nd male involved as well as the female driver. We are seeking assistance from regional law enforcement agencies to locate all three of the individuals. If located, please use extreme caution and contact the Yankton Police Department. At this time we have issued an arrest warrant for Donald Smith.
