One person was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash early Monday afternoon east of Yankton.

A 2005 Chrysler Town & Country was eastbound on 309th Street just east of 445th Avenue, just south of Mission Hill. The driver lost control of the vehicle while going into a curve. The driver overcorrected, sending the vehicle into the path of a westbound 2012 Buick LaCrosse.

The male driver of the Chrysler Town & Country, 68, later died as a result of his injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle each suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. The female driver was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The one passenger was a male.

Still under investigation is whether any of the three were wearing seatbelts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Also on the scene was the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, Yankton EMS, Yankton Fire Department and Gayville Fire Department. The Department of Public Safety will not release names connected to fatal accidents due to the passage of Marsy’s Law.
