One Killed, Four Injured in Crash Near Mitchell

An Alexandria, S.D., male has been identified as the person killed in a one-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning south of Mitchell. Four others were injured.

18 year old Dylan Mentele was a passenger. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

A 2011 GMC Sierra was eastbound when the driver,18 year old Tate Thompson of Ethan, S.D., failed to negotiate a curve east of the intersection of 258th Street and 409th Avenue. The vehicle went into the south ditch.

A 17 year old female passenger from Mitchell, S.D., sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The three other male occupants, including the driver, suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending against the driver. It is unknown if any of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Davison County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell EMS, Davison County Search and Rescue and the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
