One Dead in Lake County Accident

A 70-year-old woman died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash east of Madison.

Name of the two drivers are not being released pending notification of families. They were the only two people involved.

A 2015 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ was stopped on South Dakota Highway 34 at the intersection of 462nd Avenue. The Equinox had activated its lights and was prepared to turn onto 462nd Avenue.

The vehicle was rear-ended by a 2012 Dodge Journey. Both vehicles were eastbound.

The 70-year-old female in the Equinox was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the second vehicle, 75, received minor injuries and was transported to the Madison hospital. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Ambulance and Wentworth Fire and Rescue.
