One Dies in Accident on Highway 81 South of Yankton

A Hudson (SD) man was killed in an accident yesterday south of Yankton.
The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office received the report of the accident approximately 4.5 miles south of Yankton, SD on Highway 81 about 2:15 Sunday afternoon.
A 2005 Dodge 2500 Pickup pulling a trailer driven by 58 year old Randyl Kruid (pronounced K-R-I-E) of Hudson, SD was travelling Northbound on Highway 81 when it was struck by a 2004 Ford Freestar Van driven by 64 year old Andrea Sudbeck of Fordyce. The van was attempting to enter the Northbound lane of travel from the shoulder of Highway 81.
The pickup driven by Kruid rolled multiple times, ejecting the passenger, 45 year old Delwin Chavis of Hudson, SD.
Injured victims were transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD where Chavis later died.
The accident remains under investigation by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol. Other agencies responding to the accident were Crofton Fire & Rescue, Crofton Police Department, Nebraska Game & Parks, Yankton SD Fire Dept. and Lifenet Air Medical.
