One person died and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash that happened Friday west of Brookings.
Names of those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
A 2000 Pontiac Grand Am was going east on U.S. Highway 14 when it crossed the center line and collided head-one with a westbound 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix.
The female driver of the Grand Am was pronounced dead at the scene. Three juvenile passengers in that vehicle were injured including a 4-year-old girl who suffered life threatening injuries. The female driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix also sustained life threatening injuries. All of the injured individuals were transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.
All of the occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts. The youngest juvenile was not in a child restraint system.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Arlington Ambulance and Volga Fire Department.
