The $1.3 trillion Omnibus Appropriations Bill signed by the President has provisions important to the dairy industry. Chris Galen with the National Milk Producers Federation says they’re pleased it contains language forcing the Food and Drug Administration to take action against mislabeled imitation dairy products.

He says the problem has been that plant based beverages have been labeled as milk. Galen also says another key provision in the Omnibus was a fix for the Section 199A tax deduction, which is important for dairy cooperatives.

Galen says the fix gives equal treatment on the tax deduction to those farmers who sell to coops and private companies.

He says they were also pleased with the CERCLA emissions reporting exemption for livestock producers and the six-month waiver for livestock haulers from the Electronic Logging Device rules.
